What would you say? Would you think I'm unreal? 'Cause everybody's got their way I should feel. basics FULL NAME: Gertrude Ava Harper NAME MEANING: Gertrude, meaning "strong spear"; Ava, meaning "life", "serpent" or "bird"; Harper, Family name, an Old English surname which originally belonged to a person who played the harp or who made harps. NICKNAME(S): Gertie, Gert. BIRTH DATE: 28 October AGE: Sixteen YEAR: Fifth HOUSE: Gryffindor WAND: Holly, twelve inches, unicorn tail hair core. BLOODLINE: Half-Blood history Romilda Vane was known around Hogwarts for rather interesting reasons; in her fourth year, she tried to ply Harry Potter with Chocolate Cauldrons spiked with a love potion—the offending item later made its way to Ron Weasley instead—but as far as Romilda knew, she was unsuccessful in that conquest. Still, she nursed her infatuation with the hero of the wizarding world, Harry Potter even after he and Ginny Weasley got together. It wasn’t really until the Trio left Hogwarts that Romilda began to explore other candidates and she found it at the most unlikely of places. A Slytherin in the same year as her, Nathaniel Harper. For one thing, Romilda was a typical Gryffindor who had the tendency to be prejudiced against Slytherins and, at first, the fact that Nathaniel belonged to a rival House dampened her interest. But of course, we know what they say about forbidden things… once you say you can’t have it, you want all the more. In typical Romilda fashion, she They met after a match between Slytherin and Ravenclaw, whereby Slytherin won. Romilda had loitered outside the Quiditch Pitch on the pretence that she had lost her scarf, which was strategically placed just metres outside the Slytherin locker rooms. Perhaps Fate was in Romilda’s side that day, no one really knows, but it happened that Nathaniel found her scarf and had approached the girl to ask if she was looking for it. As one would expect, Romilda thanked him profusely and introduced herself, he told her it was no fuss at all and did the same. They walked back to the castle together and found out that, maybe, people of the other House weren’t so bad after all… or that the other was an exception to the others. Things progressed quite well after that. Sure, Nathaniel would get annoyed by Romilda’s silliness at times and Romilda would find his indifference grating, but more often than not, they found the other’s differences endearing. So that was how Romilda Vane got her happy ending. It wasn’t with who she had imagined it to be, but Romilda Harper sounded much better than Romilda Potter anyway. And besides, she liked it better now that the person she loved actually loved her back. That was a big improvement, indeed. The pair married four years after graduating from Hogwarts, neither one of them never really wanted to get married early. Romilda settled down to work as an employee at the Ministry of Magic’s Improper Use of Magic Office while Nathaniel, who was much more ambitious than his wife, progressed in the Department of International Magical Cooperation’s International Magical Law Office. Overall, the couple kept a decent lifestyle and made their home at Kensington and Chelsea in London. Within a year of their wedding, they had Michael then after that, Ivan. It wasn’t until eight years later that they had Gertrude. Growing up with two much older brothers made Gertrude’s childhood very interesting indeed. At first, they excluded her from their many activities, as normal young boys do, but as soon as Gertie turned six, they began to include her in their games of Quidditch with their school friends during the holidays. So she was quite boyish as a young girl, and it wasn’t until she turned seven that Romilda intervened and began arranging for female playmates to drop by their home. Gertie found it easy to get along with her playmates, adapting to playing with dolls and having tea parties as easily as she would run after her brothers for a game of Quidditch. Both her brothers attended Hogwarts and during holidays they would regale her with stories about the castle, Hogsmeade and the Quidditch games. Gertie especially liked the stories of their Quidditch games. Michael played as Seeker for the Ravenclaw team when he was at Hogwarts while Ivan played Chaser for Slytherin. When Gertie turned nine, both her brothers were out of Hogwarts so it was natural for her to become impatient. She had manifested her magical abilities when she was seven, making a branch break off and graze Ivan’s shoulder when they were teasing her. Years later, on her eleventh birthday, she received her Hogwarts letter. Hogwarts was everything Gertrude imagined it to be, though she was a little terrified at first to appreciate the castle’ beauty. During the train ride to Hogwarts, she had been preoccupied with the Sorting. It didn’t really matter to her parents where she was Sorted but she really didn’t want to be in Hufflepuff. She’d heard all the insults her brother had said about the House. Gertie was getting more and more agitated as the Sorting progressed. When her turn came, she nearly knocked over the three-legged stool as she made her way—she had grimaced in embarrassment, was that a sign? The Sorting Hat laughed at her assumption that it would place her in Hufflepuff due to such a simple mistake. No, it was either Slytherin or Gryffindor. The Sorting Hat noticed her determination to prove herself, it also helped that she had the tendency to be a little sly when the situation asks for it. But then again, she had enough blind courage and idealism to be a decent Gryffindor. In the end, Gertie was Sorted into Gryffindor due to her slightly reckless and courageous nature as well as her disregard for what people may think of her actions. As always, the Sorting Hat was right. Gertie fit in very well in Gryffindor and, in typical Gertrude fashion, she made friends easily with her Housemates as well as those in other Houses. At this point, she began to take notice of boys—and so began her fascination with them. Very unlike her mother, she never resorted to spiking chocolate with love potions, she just asked. The concept of asking boys out never really fazed Gertie, because really, she looked all right enough and she wasn’t very annoying, she liked to think she was excellent company. Gertie was successful in some cases, she wasn’t in some—she didn’t really let those things get to her, you can’t win them all, after all. Now in her fifth year, she continues to go on her way at Hogwarts while taking notice of the impending OWLs. She tries to balance her studies with Quidditch and boys, of course, and she sometimes is successful. Gertie can’t help but participate in troublemaking once in a while; it helps keeps things interesting around the place. She’s just a little worried that she might go the same path as her mother, not with the love potions, of course, but with the Potter worship. She finds it a little awkward. But then again, maybe Gertie can’t help it—perhaps it’s genetic? personality It isn’t that Gertrude, or Gertie as she likes to be called, can’t be mild or subtle—she can, she just doesn’t like boring. Gertie is naturally gregarious; she is very sociable and loves talking to people. It helps that she is naturally interested in what they have to say, so people don’t find it hard to like her because, honestly, people like talking about themselves. The girl loves to laugh and thus she seeks the company of amusing, entertaining or generally more theatrical people, and in turn she likes to make other people giggle as well. Since she is the daughter of the infamous Romilda Vane, Gertie has the tendency to be a tad bit boy crazy; poor girl can’t help it, it’s in her genes. Unlike her mother, however, she wouldn’t be caught handing out spiked Chocolate Cauldrons to her object of infatuation. She’d simply pluck up the courage and ask them out on a date, several times. Sometimes in an offhand manner, sometimes by way of a joke or if all else fails, she’ll attempt to be serious about it and ask nicely. Afterall, you won’t know the answer if you don’t ask, right? Gertie’s quite persistent, especially if she believes that she has a chance with someone and hardly takes no for an answer. If she does believe that the person is genuinely uninterested, she’ll back off… and find someone else to bother. One of the many things she took after her father is her love for Quidditch. It’s one of the very few things that Gertie can remain serious about for long periods of time. It helps that she also inherited her father’s skills in the pitch. Gertie’s can make quite a competent Chaser. She’s quite a bright girl but she’s often occupied with others things besides academia for her to get outstanding marks, except for one or two classes that she actually enjoys. appearance Getrude stands at an average five feet and six inches tall, and has an average build that, while slim, borders toward the athletic. She has dark, almost black hair and prominent deep hazel eyes—two traits she inherited from her mother. Gertie has the tendency to emphasise her eyes by wearing dark eye makeup, which makes her look moodier than she really is. The girl has long, oval-shaped face and slightly wide but slightly thin lips that quirk upwards around the edges. Gertrude wears her hair mid-length, just stopping below her shoulders, and straight. She tends to avoid wearing dark colours because she thinks that they make her look like a banshee, something that she is painfully self-conscious of. Overall, she has an intimidating look that doesn’t quite coincide with her outgoing nature. romance SEXUALITY: Heterosexual CURRENT STATUS: Single. FORMER FLAMES: TBD. SECRET CRUSHES: TBD. TURN ONS: Quidditch players. It may sound slightly Freudian but it's true. Much like her mother, she has the tendency to admire those who have some sort of hero complex. A good sense humour is a must as well as some patience, since Gertie's personality can be a little grating to some. TURN OFFS: Gertie doesn't like it when people feel the need to parade how much better or smarter they are than others, and she personally thinks arrogance is a manifestation of overcompensation. AMORTENTIA POTION: The smell of cut grass, the smell of rain quenching dry, parched earth, the leathery smell of Quidditch gloves and a spicy scent she'd come across the Gryffindor Common Room. likes/dislikes LIKES Gertrude loves Defense Against the Dark Arts and it's probably the only subject she actually studies for. Other than that, she is utterly obsessed with Quidditch and wants to play for the Holyhead Harpies (that, or become an Auror). As expected, she likes boys. And she likes seeing their expressions when she asks them out. Gertie finds it extremely amusing. DISLIKES Arrogance, close-mindedness and stawberries. Those damned strawberries. Gertie also hates History of Magic with the fire of a thousand suns. astrology GRYFFINDOR SCORPIO: Expect stamina, incredible courage, intense and stormy emotions, burning idealism, and indomitable will. Gryffindor Scorpios are never drawn in shades of pastel; they are always blood red and mesmerizing gold. There are few followers born under these aspects; Scorpios born into this house tend to be either leaders or loners. They are well placed on the Quidditch field, where their natural competitive streak and their great store of personal energy make them natural Beaters (or, really, naturals at any position on the field). Expect them to get into frequent duels, and expect them to gravitate naturally to DADA, for all Scorpios are fascinated by anything dark and forbidden, and Gryffindor Scorpios will want to take their place as defenders as early in their careers as possible. Expect passion. Expect wisdom. But don't expect a lot of time to take a breather. Many people born under this aspect also end up as Aurors; they're the perfect "bad cops" to the "good cop" Libra wizards. Oh, how I try to be just okay. Yeah, but all I ever really wanted, Was a little piece of you. ooc MUN: Raisa EMAIL: Ask me.
